Why media day portraits are different

Yearbook photos record who was on the team.

Media Day portraits showcases who the team is—and a media day is an experience with memories that they will remember years from this season when they look back at these photos.

Traditional yearbook photos are designed to simply document the team for the school yearbook. They’re quick, standardized, and focused on getting a single photo taken efficiently.

Media Day is a completely different experience.

It’s designed to celebrate your athlete or dancer and help them feel confident, proud, and professional. The experience itself is part of the value.

During Media Day, students are guided through poses, expressions, and movement in a fun, encouraging environment. We use creative lighting, professional direction, and stylized setups to capture their personality, athleticism, and team spirit. It feels more like a professional photo shoot than a school picture day.

The result is a collection of high-quality portraits that can be used for posters, programs, social media, banners, and keepsakes.

Most importantly, students walk away feeling seen, celebrated, and excited about being part of their team.

Making Media Day Portraits Fun & Memorable

Media Day portraits don’t have to be stiff or boring. We offer several creative options so teams and families can choose a look that fits their style, sport, and personality. Think of it as mix-and-match—you can keep it simple, or go all-out.

📍 Location Options

• On-site (gym, field, court, pool): Classic and authentic—great for showcasing where the team plays.
• Studio setup (portable): Clean, professional look we bring to your location.
• Environmental backgrounds: Locker rooms, stadium seating, turf, or unique architectural spots for a bold, modern feel.

👉 Choosing the location helps set the tone—traditional, dramatic, or high-energy.

👕 Outfit Choices

• Official uniforms: Timeless and perfect for team banners, programs, and yearbooks.
• Alternate looks: Warm-ups, jerseys only, or themed gear (blackout, throwback, color-coordinated).
• Personal add-ons: Shoes, gloves, balls, bats, sticks, medals—small details that add personality.

👉 Athletes usually love having at least one “serious” shot and one fun or relaxed option.

💡 Studio Lighting Styles

• Bright & clean: Even lighting, great for all ages and classic portraits.
• Dramatic / high-contrast: Strong shadows and highlights for a powerful, elite look.
• Colored or accent lighting: Team colors or subtle effects to make images pop.

👉 Lighting alone can completely change the mood of a portrait.

✨ Special Effects & Creative Touches

• Smoke or fog effects: Adds motion and intensity (very popular with older teams).
• Action poses: Mid-movement shots instead of standing poses.

👉 All effects are optional and age-appropriate—Parents need to sign a release to approve special effects.



✅ How We Keep It Easy

• Coaches can choose one consistent look for the whole team, or
• Families can select from pre-approved options—no guessing, no pressure.
• We guide athletes through posing so they feel confident and relaxed.

When we have our pre session consultation ( You can schedule that here) we will discuss all of that. I have more than 8 years of experience with photographing large groups and individual athletes and will guide you through the whole process.

Important information.

• Athletes should show up, ready to be photographed, 10 minutes before the scheduled session
• Athletes/Parents are responsible to wear the correct outfit and bring the right props (Materials like soccer ball, baseball bat, volleyball etc.).
• Read about hair and make up preparation on this page to avoid additional retouch costs.
• When the photos are ready parents/coaches will receive an email that the gallery is ready for viewing. THis can take between 3-5 weeks.
• Parents can order their favorite photos for prints and digitals in a private team gallery.
• Coaches can select any photos for your prints/digitals.
• Photos will be shipped directly to your house, shipping fee is NOT included
• If your child is sick, please reach out to your coach/team manager. No make up day sessions.
